Dear Parent:
In my English I class, we will be using blogs, wikis and related technologies to create a body of student work available via the Internet. In our class, I’ll be asking students to create their own blogs, wikis, videos, podcasts, and digital stories. Due to the nature of this technology, your students’ work, with your permission, will be available online and accessible via our class websites and their personal blogs/wikis/presentations.
We will first learn about what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for online communication, and your students’ work will be monitored closely by me to ensure his/her safety and privacy. I hope that you, too, will monitor your student’s progress.

Security
This blogging project is designed to minimize risk to your child. There will be no personal identifying information as students will be identified by first name.
Assessment
The blog assignments will be part of your child’s grade this year. Students will have a scoring rubric that explains the expectations for these assignments.
Blogging Terms and Conditions
1. Students using blogs and podcasts are expected to act safely by keeping personal information out of their posts. You agree to not post or give out your family name, password, user name, e-mail address, home address, , or other information that could help someone locate or contact you in person. You may share your interests, ideas, and preferences.
2. Students using blogs and podcasts agree to not share their username or password with anyone besides their teachers and parents. You agree to never log in as another student.
3. Students using blogs and podcasts are expected to treat the Student Community as a classroom space. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for your blog or publication. We expect you to conduct yourself in a manner reflective of a representative of our school.
4. Students blogs are to be a vehicle for sharing student writing with real audiences. Most visitors to your blog who leave comments will leave respectful, helpful messages, but all comments will be monitored by me. Any inappropriate comments will not be passed on to students and the offender will face disciplinary actions.
5. Students who do not abide by these terms and conditions may lose their opportunity to take part in this project.
Permission
Before your child may start posting to their blog, we are asking for you and your child to discuss and sign the following form. Please return the form to me by Friday.
To use the blog, you must agree to the following statements.

I will not use my full name, or the name of my classmates.

I recognize that breaking any of these rules could lead to any of the following consequences depending on severity and repetition:
