Warning Shots p. 6

The attempted assassination of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has reignited the long debate over guns in America.

CRITICAL THINKING

Why is such an amendment important in the nation's earliest years? The amendment is important because people use guns for different reasons than what they was meant for.

Who made up the 'militia' then? The person that made up the militia wasthe capital.

How has the Supreme Court interpreted that language in recent decisions? The Supreme Court interpreted that language because to many people were using it in a wrong way.

Do you think there should be any restrictions on an individual's right to own and carry guns today? If so, what kind?I think they should have restrictions because people are getting guns for "killing"

reasons. One thing they can do is check the persons backround.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Gun-control advocates say that Arizona's gun laws are too permissive.

What do you think?I think the laws are not to permissive because people need a backround check.

Should people be able to carry concealed weapons into restaurants and bars?I think people should not carry concealed weapons in restaurants & bars.

On college campuses? Why or why not?Still no because people can still get shot.

Why do you think more teens than adults support gun-control laws?I think more teens supprt gun-control laws because more teens know about the murders and suicides than adults do.

What, if anything, do you think could have prevented the Tucson shootings?I think one way to prevent that shooting is duct down and cover your head and hope you dont get shot.

How do you think gun-control supporters and opponents would answer these questons?I don't think they would because they wouldn't care for it because they already know.

When describing her bill to ban large-volume gun magazines, Congresswomen Carolyn McCarthy, Democrat of New York, said, "This is not a gun-control bill. I like to use the word 'gun-safety bills.'"  What point do you think she was trying to make? Do you agree? The point I think she's trying to make is she wants to protect people not trying to hurt them.

DEBATE

Take a stand: Should the U.S. ban the sale of gun magazines that contain more than 10 rounds of ammunition?I think that guns shouldn't have more than 10 rounds of ammunition because I think all people need is 1 round per use.
